This photo shows how much of a difference color and shading can make to a simple design like these cherry blossom flowers and branches. Left unfilled, the tat is too simple looking. The flowers are inked in pink and white and the branches vary from tan to black.

He has the image placed so that it starts at his ankle and then grows up the side of his leg. A colored background of swirls could be added to brighten it up as well. Cherry blossoms have many different meanings in Japanese and Chinese cultures like celebration and something short lived so they are great tattoos for men or women.
